Simple Flat Colored Bust 2

Description

Here's another simple flat colored bust commission example. Unlike the other one, this one would cost only $14, since the markings are substantially less complex. A $12 flat color would be, for instance, this dinosaur but without the brown stripe, since that would be an even simpler pattern. :)

This Acrocanthosaurus is based off of the sculpture by the late sculptor Dave Thomas, who passed away in 1999. This sculpture is now in the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum. It also made an appearance in a documentary called "Dinosaur Attack!" that aired on the Discovery channel in 1999. I'm almost 100% sure it aired on the 4th of July, because I clearly remember it airing before some fireworks documentaries. This documentary was what first introduced me to Acrocanthosaurus, and it has been and always will be one of my all time favorite theropods.

Incidentally, that documentary also had a 3D model of it, with the colors directly based on Dave's sculpture. It was pretty primitive looking and inaccurate (pronated hands, weird skull, not much of a spinal ridge, etc), but it was the first time that I ever saw an Acro animated on screen. :) I was able to get my hands on a copy of this documentary, and it definitely had a lot of outdated information in it- for instance, that theropods couldn't run and breathe at the same time, and that sauropods were cold blooded and would move even slower at night, and also that the hunt between dinosaur predator and prey was very slow and "the outcome could be predicted long before the final attack".

So, here's everyone's favorite 90's Acro who can't run and breathe at the same time. Poor thing...

P.S. I wanted to make it with feathers, but it would ruin the classic look, and I wanted to stay as true to Dave Thomas' look as possible...well, only with some of my interpretations...such as extra-oral covering and more accurate crests... ;)

Wow, that's so lovely, especially his or her eyes, which look so cute and lively in my opinion. First, when I just saw the thumbnail of this drawing I thought it was a featherless version of your beautiful Neovenator, because the snout markings resembled to it. ^^;

For me it is also interesting to read, what brought Acrocanthosaurus into your life, because I can't remember that I saw this documentary, so it is new to hear for me, that they once thought theropods weren't able to run and to breath at the same time, which sounds a bit strange for me, because I don't know any animal, which can't breath and run at the same time. Same goes with the movement of sauropods, which are sometimes animated in that way: three legs on the ground while the other moves forward.

Well, if I had to name what introduced Acrocanthosaurus to me, then I would have to say you were it ;)
